BICENTENNIAL ROUNDABOUT -GUADALUPE- (COMPLETED)
Sustainable Development Goals -SDGs- the project contributes to
Highlighted Features
The construction of the new overpass at the traffic light intersection in Guadalupe began in January 2020 and concluded in 2021. This project connects with the Circunvalación Norte highway; the underground passage is 790 meters long, with four lanes in the overpass (two per direction), and a roundabout was built with two lanes per direction to allow access to the nearby localities. Sidewalks on both sides, bus bays, a pedestrian bridge, and an expanded culvert over the Torres River were also constructed.
Role of UNOPS
Implementing agency responsible for contracting and auditing construction, and supervising the work. The physical measurement audit allows controlling both the contractor's work and the supervisor's. UNOPS carried out the Project's social management and strengthened the capacities of the Executing Unit CONAVI-CABEI, particularly in terms of construction supervision.
An integral project
The work was part of an integral project aimed at the execution of 3 underpasses on the Circunvalation Road RN 39, beneath the Garantías Sociales and La Bandera roundabouts and the Guadalupe intersection (where a roundabout was constructed and the underpass was beneath it).
Benefits
Route 39 or Circunvalación Road RN 39 is one of the main traffic arteries of the capital city of Costa Rica. The underpasses expedite vehicle flow throughout the area, through which more than 70,000 vehicles travel daily.
